SCIENCE IN TIMES OF CHALLENGED TRUST AND EXPERTISE
The symposium Science in Times of Challenged Trust and Expertise presented three sessions on the notions of the alleged loss of trust in research and evidence. Experts will explore the underlying causes, as well as questions on how valid knowledge can and should be acquired and communicated.
ALLEA MADAME DE STAËL PRIZE
The 2018 All European Academies Madame de Staël Prize for Cultural Values award ceremony honoured Andrea Pető, Professor in the Department of Gender Studies at the Central European University, Budapest. The Prize was handed over by the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel.

Organised by SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies), running alongside the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency, this conference explored science advice for policy and how we can learn from experience to shape the future of policy advice.

Leading scholars on the notions of trust, knowledge production and digital communications will join to debate the challenges posed to science in its role as a trusted source of evidence and expertise.
The ALLEA Madame de Staël Prize award ceremony will include a lecture by the 2018 laureate, the laudatory speech, as well as an address by European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel.
Experts and policy-makers will discuss recent experiences of the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM), particularly the involvement of European academies via SAPEA.
In this closed business meeting, ALLEA Member Academies’ representatives will discuss ALLEA governance, strategy and policy matters, as well as the most relevant recent, on-going and upcoming activities.
The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences invites participants of the ALLEA General Assembly to attend a guided sightseeing tour to the city of Plovdiv, the 2019 European Capital of Culture. To participate in this cultural activity, a contribution of approximately 35-45 € will be charged.

In February 2018 ALLEA gathered together scholars from European academies of sciences and humanities at the British Academy in London.
