Panelist, Session 1: Disaster Response and Adapting Public Services
Professor Tom Shakespeare studied at Cambridge University and went onto sociology posts at Sunderland University, Leeds and Newcastle University. He was then a technical officer in the Disability and Rehabilitation team, where he helped produce the World Report on Disability (2011). His own books include The Sexual Politics of Disability (1996) and Disability Rights and Wrongs (2006). Since 2013, he was first at Norwich Medical School (UEA) and now at LSHTM, where he leads teams working on global disability and global mental health.
In an increasingly uncertain world, we need to understand more about what often goes wrong in crises, and how barrier removal and appropriate services can ensure disabled people and others are not excluded.
