Prof Dan Larhammar is the president of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and chairs its International Committee. He previously chaired the Education Committee. Professor Larhammar has more than 25 years’ experience of debates with proponents of pseudoscience of various types, especially alternative medicine (including anti-vaccine), creationism, parapsychology, and climate change denial. He also has long experience of examining suspected research misconduct, having served on the Swedish Research Council’s expert committee for eight years and a working group of the Academy of Sciences for five years. He has extensive experience of explaining science to the general public and to journalists, and to debunk pseudoscience in public media and public debates. He was a member of a working group in EASAC that has issued statements against homeopathy and incorporation of traditional Chinese methods in the World Health Organization’s ICD-11 manual for classification of diseases.
