Astrid is a theoretical physicist, and focuses on the fundamental building blocks of matter, space and time in her research. She obtained her PhD in 2011 at the University of Jena, Germany, and held postdoc positions at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Canada, and Imperial College, London, before becoming a junior research group leader at Heidelberg University in 2016. In 2019, she became associate professor at CP3-Origins, University of Southern Denmark. She has won a number of fellowships and awards and has been a member of the German Young Academy (Junge Akademie) since 2018, where she has been serving on the board since 2020 and is currently the speaker of the academy. She is the Chair of the ALLEA Working Group Climate Sustainability in the Academic System.
